Running Is My Balcony Moment
Why I make most of my decisions while running
I. Making Decisions
Recently the CEO of my company talked about decision making. We make decisions all the time. Some of them are not as important (e.g., shoes to wear, what to eat, etc.,) but some are life-changing (e.g., switching careers or having a child).
He continued by saying that making a decision is inevitable, but making the right one is hard. It gets even more challenging when there is no clear right or wrong decision.
What is a decision? According to the Webster Dictionary, it is “a choice that you make about something after thinking about several possibilities.”
What distinguishes a good decision-maker from a bad one?
To answer this question, let’s assume the following scenario. There are two pathways ahead of me. One path will lead me right towards a hungry bear that will kill me, while the other guides me safely back home. My life depends on the decision I make. If I choose to go with my gut feeling, I have a 50% chance of being right and a 50% chance of being wrong. Optimists will tell me that this is not as bad as it looks, but I would not want to base my life-changing decision on a coin flip.
