Yoga can make you happy in quarantine
The rise of ‘mind sports’ has only just begun
Yoga has been getting increasingly popular in recent years. It got to the point where even the ‘average Joe’ owns a professional yoga matt. I mean — I own one too so who am I to judge. Quarantine left everybody with a desire to be physically active while being stuck at home.
This disruption of our daily routines merely confirmed the yoga hype. It’s an exotic combination of stretching, strength exercises, and meditation and wins everyone’s hearts.
Honestly yoga is so fashionable right now, that not a day passes where I don’t see one of my friends posting a picture or video of himself doing yoga on Social Media. So, where did this new and hip way of life came from? Yoga originated from a civilization in Northern India over 5,000 years ago. It was created as a system of practices designed to rejuvenate the body and prolong life. Sounds pretty good to me. I’ll have me some of that.
Around 1900, yoga masters from India began to travel to the western world to showcase their practices. That was when the hype around yoga began to manifest. But it did not become mainstream until a couple of years ago. Later on, I will outline possible reasons for the recent spark in yoga practitioners.
